Properties and benefits of oil for your skin

Already from ancient times, as in the era of Cleopatra, there was a certain interest in the qualities of olive oil for the skin. At that time, the oil was used to embellish the skin while bathing or even to clean the pores on the face.

These uses have evolved and, nowadays, extra virgin olive oil is used in various cosmetic lines to treat the skin. Some of the benefits of using olive oil for the skin are the following:

Nutrition. Extra virgin olive oil has a high content of vitamins A and E. Thanks to this, olive oil becomes a great ally if we want to leave our skin soft, supple and radiant.

Moisturizing. Olive oil is a great ally if you want to combat dry skin. Thanks to its vitamin E, you will combat dry skin with olive oil.

Anti-aging. One of the best known benefits of extra virgin olive oil is its action against free radicals, due to its high level of polyphenols. That is why olive oil preserves the natural elasticity of the skin, leaving it soft and fighting against premature aging. The results turn into skin full with shine, texture, softness and elasticity.

It repairs damaged tissues. As we already know, extra virgin olive oil is rich in vitamins, making it ideal for accelerating the healing process of damaged skin tissues. Many specialists recommend using a little extra virgin olive oil on superficial wounds.

It removes makeup. Extra virgin olive oil is capable of cleaning the skin in depth, as well as providing hydration and repairing the skin. In this way, we get our skin to stay young and soft.

Application mode

A very widespread use of extra virgin olive oil is its application as a natural moisturizer. To get hydrated and nourished skin, just apply extra virgin olive oil after showering, as if it were a body oil or a cream. Remember that olive oil is still a fat and you will have to wait for the skin to absorb it so as not to stain anything.

If what you’re looking for is to say goodbye to the driest areas of our skin, such as the elbows, feet, knees or hands, using extra virgin olive oil will help us. With the help of a cotton ball, we apply extra virgin olive oil on these areas.

Extra virgin olive oil is an ingredient used to reduce wrinkles, especially those that appear around eyes. To do this, we apply very little extra virgin olive oil on the area and massage carefully. The eye contour is very sensitive and we must be careful.

To lighten the spots that have appeared on the skin naturally, either from old wounds or caused by the sun's rays, apply extra virgin olive oil to the affected area.

Olive oil for your face

With a little extra virgin olive oil, we can hydrate our faces. How? In two ways: applying it directly to the face or using the combination of extra virgin olive oil with other products, such as lemon, coffee or aloe vera. In this last form, a mask results, which we can leave on overnight or just for a few minutes.

As we have seen, extra virgin olive oil can be used as a make-up remover. Whether you have oily or mixed skin or if you have dry skin, you can use the double cleanse. This method consists of first applying a little extra virgin olive oil and massaging the face to remove makeup and dirt. We rinse and then apply a cleansing gel. In this way, we eliminate any trace of extra virgin olive oil that has remained on the skin, just when we have already benefited from the properties of olive oil for the face.
